It is so common that every man experiences it sooner or later. Despite that an erection malfunction can be rattling to the nerves, yet there is no serious cause for concern. The MD, a urology professor at Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood – John S. Wheeler said that “If a man can have a good erection most of the time and a satisfactory sexual experience, I would not consider that to be erectile dysfunction. But if you can have sex in some situations and not in others, the cause is probably psychological and not physical.”

How to Diagnose Situational Erectile Dysfunction

If a man is having problem to get or sustain an erection up to 20% of the time he has sex, that is said to be normal. But, if the problem occurs more than that, medical help is needed. A doctor can easily diagnose situational erectile dysfunction by checking a patient for physical problems and go over his health history. A monitor that measures the penis for erections as the patients sleeps can also be prescribed. When you are not having a desiring sex as often as you did when you were younger is not a sign of a sexual issue. Dr. Wheeler said “for many older guys, having sex a few times in a month may be enough and this is perfectly normal.”

Causes of Short Term Erectile Dysfunction

There are many potential causes of situational erectile dysfunction. Situational factors that can hamper sexual performance include stress, fatigue, alcohol, drugs, condom problems and relationship trouble.
